Release notes

Every VectorForge release

Every update is free for every license holder, for life. Newest first. Bugs customers report are named here, with the day they were fixed, and each one becomes a permanent regression test.

  1. v0.12.2Latest

Merge scope, baked moves, guided lofts

    • Merge scope: a pocket, groove, pattern copy or mirror copy stays in the body it was made in (default for new features) or cuts every solid it meets (old files keep this); right-click the feature's timeline cell to switch, or choose the body it cuts by clicking it
    • Make this position the design position: right-click a moved part to bake its translation into the timeline; dimensions to the world axes are re-read at the new spot
    • Reference cycles between sketches on different planes (a line snapped to a circle's centre that is snapped back to the line) are detected and the forward snap dropped, with a note in the status line; they used to pin the sketch at a stale position and show a false conflict
    • Guided lofts between circles of different tessellation no longer fail with "folds over itself": the ring merge pinned vertices on both sides and left near-duplicate rulings
    • Distance between lines auto-selects the partner when the line is already parallel to exactly one other line
    • Arcs follow the cursor's travel from the first rim point: moving clockwise draws the clockwise slice
    • Horizontal and vertical between two points (two circle centres, an arc end and its centre) get their own menu items on a vertex
    • Horizontal / vertical inferred while drawing lines and polylines (within 4 degrees), glyph shown on the rubber band; Shift draws free
    • Backspace and Delete auto-repeat in every text field
    • Only the constraint glyphs that conflict are drawn red; the sketch wire keeps its colour
    • AppImage baseline moved to Debian 12 (glibc 2.36); BASELINE_GLIBC=host builds without a container
  2. v0.12.1

NPT threads, view modes, solver and Pi fixes

    • NPT pipe threads to ASME B1.20.1: tapped holes (type 1/4 NPT), external threads on a pipe end with the crests turned to the taper, internal threads in a bore; 1/16" to 12", 1:16 taper, standard TPI and lengths
    • View modes: shaded, transparent, wireframe from a tile in the button column or the V key
    • Sketch solver: angular constraints are judged at the sketch's scale, not the edge's, and a collapsing edge is a reported conflict; an over-constrained wall profile used to "solve" by shrinking two 45-degree steps to nothing and reporting itself consistent
    • A sketch in conflict holds still instead of creeping on every rebuild; the conflicting constraints are drawn red
    • Raspberry Pi / Rock Pi / Mali: the depth read-back that occluded-glyph tests did on the whole window every frame is now one pixel per query, and picking is scissored to the cursor and coalesced to one pick per frame
    • The renderer is printed at start-up and a software rasteriser (llvmpipe) is called out, so an idle GPU is noticed
    • Makefile: the TBB autodetect always said yes; fixed, with TBB=0/1 to override
    • New test suite: npttest
  3. v0.12

    Quality of life improvements

    • Lofts with just a sketch and a path
    • Perpendicular sketches on vertices
    • ARM64 support
    • Anchor planes to vertices
    • Grouped timeline elements
